What makes Satonda Island famous to foreign countries is because in the past there were two European scientists namely Stephan Kempe and Josef Kazmierczak researching Satonda Lake in 1984, 1989 and 1996. The results of their research stated that Satonda lake was a rare phenomenon because of its salty water, with a very high level of alkalinity compared to most seawater. Both argue that the satonda lake basin coincided with the formation of an old crater that was more than 10,000 years ago.
